How old does my child need to be to go for a Recess ride?
Roughly speaking, between the ages of 1 and 5. On the maximum end, our child seats are appropriate for children up to 48 pounds. U.S. safety guidelines state that children be one year old before riding in a seat on your bike.
What kind of child seats do you use?
We use bright orange Yepp Maxi seats on the back of our bikes. They’re appropriate for children up to 48 pounds and we like that they’re extremely safe, visible and comfortable.
How big are your groups?
We typically roll in a group of two guides and six adult guests, with children on bike seats behind them.
How long and challenging are your rides?
We roll for about 1.5 hours, with a break included for the kids. Rides are typically no more than 5-8 miles. You’ll feel active and happy, but it’s not a race.
What do I need to bring?
The goal here is to make it easy to get out of the house and have an adventure, so we equip you with all the gear you need for a pleasant ride. Bicycles, child seats, adult and child helmets are provided. Simply show up and let us take care of the details. Wear sunscreen and bring a bottle of water.
What about the bells and whistles?
Our company culture is reflected in our daily outings. It’s refreshing. We keep it simple, with a side of luxury. Our guides roll with a basket full of fresh fruit, bread and cheese so we can pause in style for a mid-ride snack. (Everyone has a bell, too. No whistles.)
Can I come without a child?
Of course! You’ll choose when you register whether you’d like a child seat ready and waiting on your bike or not. Please join us. We think this is a pretty great way for friends with and without kids to hang out together.
What kind of bikes do you use? Do you have my size?
We ride Breezer Downtown 8 ST bikes. We have them in a variety of sizes, so you’ll tell us your height when you register and we’ll get you fitted properly on the appropriate bike when you arrive. The bikes have a step-through frame that makes it easy to get on and off with a child seat on the back. They have an internal gear system which means you don’t even need to be moving to shift gears. They are easy to feel comfortable on, handle our outings well, and, in our opinion, are super stylish.
Are helmets required?
Yes, we will supply a helmet for every adult and child on a Recess ride.
Can you explain the fee structure? Is the fee per person? Per grown-up?
The fee for a Recess Outing is per bike. If you were to ride one of our Recess bikes with or without a young child in a child seat, the fee would be $40. If you or your older child is bringing your own bike to ride, the fee would be $30.
